5 Days -Uganda Gorilla & Big Five Safari

Search for Uganda’s iconic large mammals, including elephants, buffalo, lions, and other savannah wildlife, with sightings varying according to season, habitat, and wildlife movements.

Overview

Experience two of Uganda’s most remarkable wildlife environments on one carefully paced private safari.

Begin among the savannah landscapes of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where game drives and a cruise along the Kazinga Channel provide opportunities to encounter elephants, buffaloes, hippos, antelope, and abundant birdlife.

Continue into southwestern Uganda and the mist-covered forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the highlight of the journey: mountain gorilla trekking.

The itinerary is designed for travellers who want the best of both worlds—Big Five-style savannah wildlife and an intimate primate encounter—without committing to a very long Uganda circuit.

Uganda Tourism Board identifies mountain gorilla trekking and safari wildlife among Uganda’s signature tourism experiences, while UWA manages the protected areas and tracking activities.

As the city gives way to Uganda's countryside, the landscape changes from urban settlements and farmland to rolling hills, plantations and dramatic western landscapes.

Depending on your arrival time, make a stop for lunch before continuing towards Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Arrive in the park area and proceed to your luxury lodge.

Time permitting, enjoy a short evening nature experience or simply relax at the lodge overlooking the surrounding landscape.

Overnight: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2 – Queen Elizabeth Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Cruise Kazinga Channel

Wake early for breakfast before setting out on a morning game drive.

The cooler morning hours provide excellent conditions for wildlife viewing.

Your guide will explore the park's savannah tracks looking for elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kob, warthogs, antelope and other wildlife.

Depending on the season and wildlife movements, there may also be opportunities to see lions and leopards.

Return to your lodge for lunch and some time to relax.

In the afternoon, continue to the Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise.

The channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and is known for its concentration of hippos, crocodiles and waterbirds.

The cruise provides a completely different perspective of the park.

Return to the lodge in the evening.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3 – Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi Transfer to Bwindi

After breakfast, depart Queen Elizabeth and travel south towards Bwindi.

If routing and time permit, you may travel through the Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions.

Continue towards the Bwindi region.

Arrive at your lodge and settle in.

Your guide will brief you about the following day's gorilla trek, including what to carry, appropriate clothing, fitness considerations, and responsible gorilla-viewing etiquette.

Day 4 – Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, transfer to the designated gorilla trekking briefing point.

Meet your UWA ranger guides and receive a detailed briefing before entering the forest.

The trek can take several hours depending on the location of the gorilla family and the terrain.

Once the gorillas are located, you will spend the permitted viewing period observing them from a respectful distance.

UWA's current guidance states that normal gorilla tracking begins from 8:00 a.m., with a maximum viewing period of one hour once the gorilla group is encountered.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Optional community or cultural activities can be arranged in the afternoon depending on time and energy.
